Mr. Carl Mikovich, 77, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2006
surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with T Cell Lymphoma.
Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 1 from
5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 2,
2006 at Broadmoor Baptist Church Sanctuary. Officiating will be Dr. Chuck
Pourciau and Dr. Tom Harrison and a special friend Tim Brando. Interment will
follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
Carl loved God, his family, and his community to the end. He volunteered and
worked his way into his positions at the former Nike Tournament, The Independence
Bowl which included his chairmanship in 1995, the original Mudbug Madness
event and a major contributor to the Strand Theater in past years. He also
served as the first chairman of Southern Trace Board of Trustees when acquired
by CCA.
After graduating from Johns Hopkins University in 1950, he entered the U.
S. Army and headed up SFC when discharged in 1953.. In 1953 Carl entered a
management training program with the Emerson Company. He steadily climbed
up the ladder and was the first Vice President and General Manager of Emerson’s
field division. From there he went to Elyria, Ohio and ended up as President
of Ridgid Tool Company and was also appointed an Emerson Company Group Vice
President. In 1983 still a group Vice President he was named President of
Poulan Weed/Eater until his retirement in December 1993.
Carl enjoyed his attendance in his Sunday school class led by an inspiring
teacher, Dr. Scott Tatum. The friends in his class were all very helpful to
us and a special thanks to them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lola; son, Carl Schwing and
wife, Brenda of Florida; son, Stephen Mikovich and wife, Tracy; sons, Greg
Mikovich and Michael Mikovich all of Shreveport; one daughter, Carla Weaver
and husband, Larry; six grandchildren, Courtney and Kristin Schwing, Chase
and Carly Weaver, and Hannah and Austin Mikovich; one sister, Louise Campbell
and husband, Bob of Shreveport; one sister-in-law, Collette Mikovich of Cincinnati,
OH. He is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joseph and Anna Mikovich;
and one brother, Joseph Mikovich.
Pallbearers will be his sons, Carl, Greg, Stephen and Michael, son-in-law,
Larry Weaver, grandsons, Chase Weaver, and Austin Mikovich.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Independence Bowl Friends, employees and
former employees of Poulan Weed/Eater and the members of his adult Sunday
school class.
The family request memorials be made to the Broadmoor Baptist Church Building
Fund or the Sutton’s Children Hospital.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Charles
(Chad) Hargon, Dr. Michael Futrell, Dr. Wen Liu and Dr. Charles Byrd for their
special care; and Willis-Knighton Hospice and many family and friends for
their love and support.
