Shreveport, LA — The AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl has partnered with the Caddo Parish and Bossier Parish school districts to create a new art contest titled “Show Your Independence”.
The art contest will be for all elementary school students in kindergarten through fifth grade to express artistically what the word “independence” means to them.
Each student will be given a “Show Your Independence” drawing paper, printed by Paragon Press, which will have a framed area for each student to create his or her drawing.
“I think it’s very important that students understand that Independence is something that has been earned and fought for,” Mary Glass, Art & Music Curriculum Coordinator for the Bossier Parish School District, said. “I thought it was an excellent opportunity for the teachers to do a cross-curricular activity where they talk about independence and keep that in the forefront of the kids’ minds.
“I thought it was a perfect opportunity for them to gain that knowledge, as well as for us to get an opportunity to support the Independence Bowl locally.”
Art teachers from each elementary school will select one winner from each grade level. The winners will receive four tickets to the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl, and their artwork will be on display at Independence Stadium for the game.
Additionally, all of the winners’ artwork will be submitted to the school districts to judge for overall winners from Caddo and Bossier Parish for each grade level. These winners will receive special recognition at the game.
“Students participating in this AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl ‘Show Your Independence’ art contest will benefit from learning about some of the great leaders who gave their lives for the nation’s freedom and prosperity,” Henry E. Price, Supervisor of Art for Caddo Parish Public Schools, said. “They can produce art and dream to build a strong nation with aim and perseverance.”
The “Show Your Independence” art contest is sponsored by Cici’s Pizza on Youree Dr., and by LearningRx.
